Preparing a 3D Model for CheckMate Publishing

  1. Review the specifications for CheckMate Pro and CheckMate Lite, and decide which specification you wish to meet.
  2. Check your 3D model’s Integrity. Fix up the model itself to meet the specification to wish to submit to.
    • Include only textures and objects you own.
    • Eliminate errors. Make sure the model opens and renders error-free. Errors on opening or rendering are unacceptable for CheckMate models, even if the error does not affect the customer’s ability to use the model.
    • Prepare your presentation. Make at least 5 rendered thumbnails and 1 wireframe thumbnail, and a turntable if you plan to submit for CheckMate Pro.
    • You may also make as many additional thumbnails and turntables you like as long as they adhere to the resolutions described above.
  3. Prepare model data. Determine the model’s poly count and vertex count before subdivision. Be sure to completely remove subdivision tools to get an accurate count. Also make sure you use the native file format to get the count, as these counts can vary slightly in exported or derivative file formats.
  4. Pick a price. Review CheckMate Pricing to determine an appropriate price for your model.
  5. Zip it up. You have two choices on how to package your certifiable files up at this point:
    • All as One Package: Package each certifiable file format with all textures using WinZip or a comparable tool. To be clear, each ZIP file must include a single model and all its textures. You may also include a PDF with instructions on using the model, and other tools as you like. As a reminder, you cannot include personal contact information in the Readme file or any other file you upload.
    • All Bitmap Textures Together: All bitmap textures required are placed into a single, named ZIP file and uploaded once as a Textures Supporting Items product in the TurboSquid publisher.  Certifiable model files are each placed into their own named ZIP files and uploaded on their own.

Now you are ready to publish and submit your model for CheckMate Certification.

Before publishing your 3D model for sale, run down this checklist and make sure you’ve done everything possible to make your model sell.

  • Create a professional Search Image.
  • Create at least one rendered turntable of the entire model.
  • In addition to the Search Image, create at least five Product Shots at a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080 or above
  • Create at least one wireframe image. See Wireframe Images.
  • If UVs are unwrapped, save an image of the unwrapped UVs to use as a thumbnail.
  • Name your textures and materials intelligently, and strip out all map paths. See Texture References.
  • Be sure to save the model with the lighting you used in the search image. Customers like to render the model “out of the box” and see the same result they saw in the Search Image.
  • Export the model to as many other file formats as you can, especially generic file formats like OBJ and FBX. This will make your model accessible to as many customers as possible.
  • Package the models with the textures as described above.
  • Note the poly count and vertex count without subdivision. You’ll need this when publishing.
